Collection: Butter Bell
To use a French butter bell, also known as a butter crock or butter keeper, you can follow these steps:
- Soften a stick of butter
- Press the butter into the lid of the butter bell
-
Add water (about 1/3 cup) to the base
- Change water every 2-3 days. You may add a pinch of salt to help prevent mold
- Turn the lid with butter back into the base
- The water and lid create an airtight seal that keeps oxygen out and helps keep the butter fresh and spreadable at room temperature for about a month. The butter bell is thought to have originated in Vallauris, France.
